Details You Didn’t Notice in Your Favorite Cartoons

Whenever we watch an animation movie, we’re always mesmerized by the lovely illustrations and the wonderful storyline. That’s the reason why we sometimes fail to observe some pretty peculiar things happening on the screen. I’ve decided that it would be interesting if I pointed out some moments from our favorite animation movies we didn’t really pay attention to while watching them.

In the next paragraphs, I will list the most unusual details you didn’t notice in your favorite cartoons. I have to warn you that some of them will change the way you think of some prominent cartoons. They sure did that for me!

Family Relations

If you love Disney movies, you’ve probably seen Tangled and Frozen more than once. They’re both absolutely phenomenal and enjoyed huge success when they were released. Both storylines are completely different, and at first glance, they have nothing to do with each other. But if you look closely into some scenes, you will notice some weird coincidences.

Let’s start with the scene of Elsa’s coronation in Frozen. The crowd of people gathered there to see this memorable moment is huge. It’s almost impossible to recognize a specific character. But many Disney fans have managed to succeed in this endeavor. If you pay close attention, you’ll notice that Rapunzel and Flynn are in the crowd. They can be spotted when Anna goes out to greet the guests.

Additionally, many theories claim that Elsa and Rapunzel’s mothers look quite alike, which automatically brings the thought of them being sisters. The reason why they’re not together is that they’ve married kings of different realms. Another thing that may be seen as proof of this theory is that both Elsa and Rapunzel have magical powers. One can control the ice, and the other can heal with a mystical flower.

Colorful Emotions

Up is a Pixar production that was released back in 2009. It’s probably one of the most prominent cartoons created by the company. The movie tells us the story of a widower called Carl Fredricksen who wishes to fulfill his greatest wish. I will not go into details because soon you’ll find an article on Pixelnitrate dedicated to the most amazing cartoons anyone should see once in a lifetime. And, yes, Up is definitely one of these!

Pixar came up with a unique color entirely dedicated to Carl’s beloved wife, who has passed away years ago. The color is called magenta, and it is basically a variation of the color pink. Whenever we see scenes from Carl’s young life with his lover, we constantly see the bright nuance appearing on the screen. We observe it during their dates, their wedding, even during Ellie’s funeral.

After this heartbreaking event, however, the setting in the movie gets quite colorless, and the magenta shade disappears completely. We can surely say that this color shift may be related to Carl’s personal emotions. He was cheerful while his spouse was part of his life, but the man experienced a lack of meaning in life after she was gone.

That was until he met the boy Russell. Both characters take on an exciting journey towards fulfilling Carl’s deepest desire. You will notice that a slight shade of the magenta color starts appearing on the screen during their adventure. That is again associated with Carl’s emotions. He feels happy because he is on his way to realizing his and his wife’s dearest wish.

The Silent Beauty

The Sleeping Beauty is a cartoon loved by millions of people. The beautiful scenery, the wonderful illustrations, and the lovely songs all contribute to the huge success of this production. Even though it aired in 1959, the movie is still incredibly prominent even today. The main character is Aurora, who is not only breathtakingly beautiful but also quite silent.

I know the latter sounds strange to some of you but let me emphasize. Princess Aurora has no more than 18 lines in the movie. I know it seems unbelievable for a leading heroine to lack a substantial scenario, but it’s a fact. She is the second character with a limited amount of quotes. The first one is the cute elephant Dumbo, who doesn’t say a word throughout the whole movie.

The Poisonous Green Color

The last but one from my list of unusual details you didn’t notice in your favorite cartoons is devoted to the color green that’s often associated with nature, health, tranquility, etc. However, in Disney movies, the emerald-like color is used to portray violence, mischief, and wickedness.

If you play some of your favorite Disney cartoons, you’ll notice that most of the time a villain appears on the screen, the green color accompanies them. You may discern this peculiarity in many prominent productions of the company, such as:

  • The Little Mermaid
  • Cinderella
  • Snow White
  • Sleeping Beauty
  • The Lion King
  • Tangled

Elderly People Shown In A Bad Light

Now, this last one is really strange, but the countless theories online make it seem logical. Perhaps you’ve noticed that a big number of villains in cartoons are portrayed by adults or elderly people. Cruella De Vill, Cinderella’s mother, Maleficent, the Queen in Snow White, and many more are very few examples of bad adult characters.

A study conducted several years ago stated that the negative representation of so many older characters certainly impacts children’s perception of adults. Researchers believe that such portrayals influence younger individuals’ opinions about the elderly.

Final Thoughts

All things considered, even animation movies have some hidden meanings and details that are hard to notice on the surface. Many times, the plot becomes much more logical when you discover these mini secrets in the movies.
